UMDate (“we”, “us”) respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, and your rights. We operate in Canada and aim to comply with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
Information we collect
- Account: your University of Manitoba email (@myumanitoba.ca) and the codes used to verify it.
- Profile:your name, date of birth (to confirm you're 18+), gender, who you're interested in, faculty, program, year of study, bio, and photos.
- Activity: your likes/passes, matches, and the messages you send.
- Safety: information you submit when you report another user.
- Technical: basic logs needed to operate and secure the service.
How we use your information
- To provide UMDate: verify you're a U of M student, show your profile to other students, create matches, and deliver messages.
- To keep the community safe: review reports, enforce our Terms, and prevent abuse.
- To communicate with you about your account (e.g., sign-in codes).
Consent
By creating an account you consent to this policy. You can withdraw consent by deleting your account (see below).
Where your data is stored
Your data is hosted on Supabase using a Canadian (Central) region, and the site runs on Vercel. Sign-in emails are sent via Resend. Photos are kept in private storage and are only viewable by signed-in U of M students through temporary links.
Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the service providers that help us run UMDate (Supabase, Vercel, Resend), as needed to operate the service, or where required by law.
Security
We protect your data with database row-level security — users can only access their own data and their matches' messages — and we use encryption in transit (HTTPS). No system is perfectly secure, so please report anything suspicious.
Retention & deletion
You can delete your account at any time from your profile, or by emailing us. Deleting your account removes your profile, photos, messages, likes, and matches.
Your rights
Under PIPEDA you can ask to access, correct, or delete your personal information. Contact us at support@umdate.net.
Age requirement
UMDate is only for people 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
Changes
We may update this policy. We'll post the new version here with an updated date.
